Smart Continent assists public and private decision makers in shaping sustainable development keeping environment green and safe. We participate actively in research and innovation projects as well as in coordination and support actions in H2020 work-programme climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials. Our key focus area is circular economy, urban ecosystems and recycling as well reverse logistics and sustainable row materials.

We work closely with local public authorities by transferring knowledge and experience from more developed regions. We shape solutions and tools which in efficient manner helps to change behaviour industries. Also we contribute to shaping innovative policy and reinforcement tools for policy planners. Smart Continent is proud to be partners in projects DISTENDER, CIVITAS-PORTIS, CIVITAS-SUITS, METPEX, AP2050+ and cooperate with the leading institutes and universities in Europe.

Renewables and energy efficiency
There is significant potential for reducing consumption, especially in energy-intensive sectors such as buildings including large scale old fashion housing in eastern Europe, manufacturing, energy conversion and transport. Renewable sources of energy – wind, solar, hydro-electric power, geothermal energy and biomass – are an essential alternative to fossil fuels. Socioeconomic benefit estimation by using robust methodologies are placed in research agenda of Smart Continent.
